Cambodia to fall short in rice exports due to flooding
Phnom Penh–Cambodia’s rice exports to foreign countries this year will fall short from the amount that was expected earlier, due to the flooding, said President of the Federation of Cambodian Rice Millers Association Phou Puy on Tuesday. The flooding has hit the country since August, will affect the rice yield and the amount for exports to foreign countries, as it will be short of about 300,000 tonnes of milled rice, China’s Xinhua news agency reported, citing Puy as saying. However, he said, this effect will not disturb the government’ s rice policy to export at least one million tonnes of milled rice to foreign countries by 2015. To date, Cambodia has exported rice to only Asian and European nations. Soon, it will expand to other countries across the continents.
