CHRC announcement: Thai party leaders condemn human rights violations from border sound harassment by Thai military

On 14 October 2025, the Cambodia Human Rights Committee (CHRC) issued a public announcement quoting the leaders of two political parties: Mr. Kavannavee Suebseang of the Justice Party and Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut of the People’s Party. Both leaders spoke out against the use of disturbing sounds along the Cambodia-Thailand border as a form of psychological intimidation and harassment against Cambodian civilians, deeming it a serious violation of human rights and international law.

These statements make Mr. Suebseang and Mr. Ruangpanyawut the fourth and fifth figures to recognize this as a serious human rights violation under the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT). They follow Ms. Angkhana Neelapaiji, a member of the Thai Senate and a senior official of the Office of the Prosecutor General, and Mr. Sunai Phasuk, an advisor to Human Rights Watch in Thailand.
