Garment workers demonstrate to oust their foreign manager
About 2,500 workers from the Ocean Garment factory in Phnom Penh’s Pur Senchey district attempted to march yesterday to the Ministry of Labor with demands to remove a foreign factory manager, who they allege has used violence and made derogatory comments to female workers. As they left the factory on Russian Boulevard, however, a barricade of police officers prevented the workers from advancing and ordered them to go back to work. … Huon Soeu, deputy chief of the dissolution department at the Ministry of Labor, said that he chaired a meeting yesterday at the factory between the workers’ representatives and officials from the factory.
