New Gov’t Body to Regulate Telecom Industry
The government has agreed to create a regulatory body to ensure that companies operating in Cambodia’s telecommunications sector follow regulations and that companies that do not comply are held to account. According to a statement from the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Hun Sen approved the creation of the Cambodia Telecome Regulator (CTR) in a Royal Decree signed on February 10. The Government has yet to decide who will head it up or how often it will meet. For years, telecommunications companies have complained that there is not enough effort by authorities to make sure that the telecommunications sector is properly regulated.
