One Garment Worker Killed, 24 Injured in Truck Accident

A female garment worker died and 24 other workers were injured when the truck in which they were traveling careened into a pond in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district Wednesday morning, police said. More than 30 garment workers were on board a small, open-backed truck in Prek Phnov commune when it suffered a tire bow-out and skidded into the pond, said commune police chief Mok Vuthy. … This is the third serious traffic accident in the past month involving the transport of garment workers. … The dangers of overcrowded trucks will be the focus of a workshop for transport operators and garment workers organized by the ministries of labor and public works and transportation, said Peou Maly, deputy general at the ministry’s transportation department.
