Rights Worker Leaves Cambodia; Court Questioning Postponed

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday agreed to delay today’s scheduled questioning of well-known rights investigator Chan Soveth, who has been charged with aiding an unnamed perpetrator in an unnamed crime. Local human rights group Adhoc requested a delay of the court appearance on the grounds that Mr. Soveth is attending a two-week training course in Thailand, Adhoc chief investigator Ny Chakriya said. Mr. Soveth left the country on Tuesday, one day before the request for postponement was filed, Mr. Chakriya said. … Cautioning that the court’s agreement to delay the questioning should not be considered the end of the case, rights workers said it was too early to predict what the implications of the postponement would be. …
