R’kiri Villagers to March Without Permission
Rights group Adhoc said yesterday that a large-scale march in Ratanakkiri province involving hundreds of ethnic minority villagers caught in land disputes would go on as planned later this month despite the government’s refusal to approve the march. The provincial coordinator for Adhoc, Pen Bonnar, said that about 1,000 villagers are preparing to stand outside the gates of several government buildings during a 4-km march on March 19 to raise awareness about judicial intimidation in local land and forestry issues. “Land disputes in Ratanakkiri province are getting more and more serious, so this is a chance for us to make the issue heard in the public,” he said. …
