On 03 March 2021, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) issued a press release on the world’s forgotten fishes vital for hundreds of millions of people about one-third are facing extinction, caused by serious threats on freshwater ecosystem and fishes, including overfishing, habitat destruction, hydropower dams on free-flowing rivers, over-abstraction of water for irrigation, water pollution from domestic, agricultural and industrial sources, and so on.
