Land Ministry Officials Charged With Corruption

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court has charged four senior officials at the Ministry of of Land Management with corruption and placed them in pretrial detention at Prey Sar prison on Thursday evening, officials said. On Monday, Sa Reth Boramy, deputy director of the ministry’s department of land management, finance department director Pho Vuthy, and deputy finance deputy finance department directors Meas Ey Sara and Tuy Layrithy, were all arrested on suspicion of corruption after an investigation carried out by Anti-corruption Unit (ACU). … The four officials were charged under articles 597 and 598 of the Penal Code, which lays out penalties of jail terms of up to five years and 10 million Riel, or about $2,500, in fines if convicted.
