Shooting Victims’ Lawyers Denied Site Visit

Lawyers for the three women injured in a Feb. 20 shooting at a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Svay Rieng province were prevented from visiting the site of the shooting, allegedly on orders from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), a lawyer and human rights group representative said yesterday. The lawyers had planned to visit the Manhattan SEZ in Bavet City in hopes of mapping out where the victims were standing when the city’s former governor, Chhouk Bundith, allegedly opened fire on a crowd of protesters, said Chin Lyda, a lawyer from rights group Licadho who is representing the victims. …
