On 30 April 2026, the European Union Delegation in Cambodia issued an official statement on following the verdict on Kem Sokha’s appeal hearing.
The European Union Delegation and its Resident Member States note the outcome of Kem Sokha’s appeal trial with concern. Political pluralism is essential for enabling an open political and civic space in Cambodia, respectful of its democratic commitments. The EU and its Resident Member States have consistently supported the rule of law in Cambodia and hope for a constructive way forward, including by positive measures for those currently in detention.
